Racking up the miles for Charity
11th May 2024A flying start to Offshore Electronics new CSR initiative and our plans for next month.
Following on from the success of events in the community over the last few years. 2024 is certainly going to be no exception. Offshore Electronics has set off on the right foot in raising money for charity with a team relay in one of Guernsey’s largest running races.
Just over a month on from the Sure Guernsey Marathon, our team consisting of Technical Sales Director –Daniel Attewell, Materials and Customer Support Manager –Danni Williams, Test Engineering Manager – George van der Tang, Buyer – Layla-Marie Bruce and Test Operator, Tom Walden completed the grueling 26.2 miles in a time of 3 hours and 42 minutes. We are incredibly grateful for all the donations that the team received in the run up to the event and following their completion on 14th April 2024.
Two local charities, The Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation and Bowel Cancer Guernsey were at the receiving end of these donations and after a tally up, the team raised a total of £476.00 to split between their causes.
Both charities were remarkably close to our hearts, but especially for this team’s organiser Layla-Marie… Her son, Jack Morgan also took part in the charity mile, an event for the younger athletes on the same day. Jack however, took his fundraising to the next level raising over £3000.00, which is a huge achievement on its own.
Sadly, Jack lost his brother, Oliver, when Layla was pregnant at 19 weeks. Jack and Layla have since been inspired to help give everything they can to others who are going through difficult times in the same situation. The Guernsey Press featured both Offshores relay team and Jack’s contributions to the event which you can read in the press release below.
We must thank our communications service provider Sure Business for putting on such an enjoyable day at their event. Our staff were supporting the event at various stages around the course and at the finish line and the atmosphere was brilliant, and they celebrated with a well earned drink.
But it does not stop there…
Some of you will remember our famous bright orange tops from last year’s Saffery Charity Walk around the island. Without further ado, this years event is just around the corner and it won’t be long before they are back and sprinting around the cliffs of Guernsey!
Danni Williams and Layla-Marie Bruce who completed the 39 miles in 2023 in around 10.5 hours, have been training throughout the winter to try and set themselves up to improve their time by running most of this year’s event. This will be one of their biggest achievements to date and therefore we hope you can support their efforts in once more raising money for this year’s 21 new charities. In addition to our speedy runners, Offshore Electronics will be represented by Daniel Attewell, Dominic O'Brien our Sales Engineer, Gemma Le Maitre our Financial Administrator, and our Production operatives Julie Welch and Kaci-Jo Pratt (who are a mother and daughter team). Lastly heading up this relay team is our Senior Sales and Customer Relationship Manager - Sue Ballard, who is going the extra mile by flying in from Maidenhead to get involved. This is great to see so many of our staff taking on these new challenges whilst aiding those in the community.
Keep your eyes peeled for more updates, sponsorship links and training updates in the run up to the event which will be held on the 8th June 2024.
